4x Friday – September 18, 2020

Welcome to the 4x Friday, four of the coolest things I’ve found, learned, or experienced this past week.

What I discovered – Flex Step, by Liftup. It’s a stairlift designed to function both as an ordinary staircase AND as a wheelchair lift. A great space-saving solution!

What I read – The Lost Cause of Bleak Creek. For the first time since high school (I think), I read a fictional novel. I don’t have enough experience with novels to know if it was good or bad. I found it to be a bit of a “tween story.” But it entertained me during the eight days I was “disconnected,” which I do recommend highly. I’m working on disconnecting more than just once each year. And possibly reading a second novel.

What I slept on – Coleman Trailhead II Cot. My “disconnected week” takes place at our family cabin, on a creek in the N.C. mountains. When I’m there, I sleep under the stars, literally. I’m 48 inches (+/-) from the water’s edge and can hear the water rushing over the rocks. If there were any bears around, I thank them for not waking me. The weather was perfect, about 55 degrees Fahrenheit in the mornings. I find it genuinely excellent.

What I listened to – Too Many Zooz, featuring Leo P, a baritone saxophonist based in New York City and a 2013 graduate of the Manhattan School of Music. Their three albums are posted online for free listening. It’s about 55 minutes of music, total. But the real gem is watching Leo P perform. He is very colorfully animated and has revived Jazz as a genre, for me. My favorite video is “Leo P at the B.B.C. Proms 2017.”

Have a wonderful weekend!

Steve

P.S. – Given up on social media as a source of (valuable) information and education? Looking for a tool that separates the signal from the noise? Subscribe to the #HomeDESIGN Professional Daily. An online paper I edit and publish for AIBD. By sifting through hundreds of posts by industry influencers, I cut through the content and provide clarity. Although the content is 100% social media, you don’t have to sign into anything or have any accounts. I limit each issue to twelve articles/posts, one pic, and one video (12-1-1), and I deliver it to your inbox every weekday evening.

P.P.S. – I am cycling 300 miles in September to fight kid’s cancer. Please consider supporting me https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/SteveMickley/.. All funds raised will support Children’s Cancer Research Fund to continue their work in developing innovative treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
