Speaker:

Amanda D. Smith, Ph.D., joined Project Drawdown as senior scientist, built environment, in December 2022. Amanda is a researcher, energy analyst, and educator with expertise in creating and interpreting computer models of buildings and energy systems. She has experience in quantifying the relationships between energy use in buildings, weather and climate, energy costs, and emissions. Her professional career includes academic, national laboratory, and industry positions: She was an engineering professor at the University of Utah, a researcher at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and team leader for other building simulation experts, and a senior energy analyst at construction industry consulting firm SOCOTEC USA. She received her doctorate in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University.
