The American Institute of Building Design (AIBD), a nonprofit professional organization established in 1950, strives to protect and enhance our member’s ability to practice their profession. AIBD is committed to providing quality continuing education to ensure that our members remain current with technology, materials, and building codes. AIBD is also committed to establishing and maintaining professional relationships with other trade, business, and professional organizations within the design and construction industry.

At all times AIBD will hold itself to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism as specified by our institute’s bylaws and code of ethics and will uphold the protection of the health, welfare, and safety of the general public. This commitment is to the public and industry we serve and the profession we represent.

We believe everyone should have the right to choose the person they work with to design their home, as well as the right to create home designs themselves. We support this belief by providing resources for the consumer to make educated decisions, and tools for the professional to achieve peak performance.

Our values are based upon respect for the individuality of our members, consumers, and staff. In all of our activities, we seek participation from a wide variety of backgrounds and skills to serve everyone. We include anyone, who strives to improve the conditions within our sphere. We draw on all of our differences in ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, physical and mental ability, thinking styles, experience, and education. We do this because it strengthens our industry, our ability to serve the public, and because it’s the right thing to do.
