The AIBD is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the corporate Board of Directors. This is your chance to be a part of the exciting changes and growth of your organization. All goal-oriented, self-starting, and organized Professional members may apply.
Each year, five officers and up to six directors are elected for a one year term. To qualify, you must have a passion for building design and a strong desire to serve the Institute, have good communication skills, be able to devote two to five hours each week, and expect to travel at least once during the term. No prior board experience is required, orientation and staff assistance will be provided.
Those who choose to be considered for an elected leadership role with the AIBD will be working on behalf of the Institute on projects and initiatives that benefit the membership. These include our education and awareness programs, our popular conferences, and our premiere specialized certification. Board members work with program and project team leaders to develop stronger membership benefits and exciting marketing opportunities. There has never been a more important or exciting time to be part of the Institute as we work to expand and enhance all of our initiatives and member benefits!
Board service is extremely important. As a member of the board, you will be expected to participate in at least twelve electronic meetings each year and at least one face-to-face meeting. Members of the board are also asked to either lead or work on one of AIBD’s many work groups meeting via conference call throughout the year.
We know that many of our members are facing challenges to their time and financial resources and we do as much as we can to support our elected leaders. AIBD offers the following assistance:

- The one required face-to-face meeting is scheduled in conjunction with the annual meeting at the AIBD Summer Conference to lessen additional travel expenses.
- AIBD covers most of the cost of hotel accommodation and most meals while attending meetings.
- Most other responsibilities of board members are managed through email, conference calls, or other digital technologies.
