Happy Labor Day from AIBD! [MondayMINUTE]

September 07, 2020 edition of the AIBD’s MondayMINUTE weekly newsletter.
Announcements
Have a happy and healthy Labor Day!
Whether you’re traveling or staying local this holiday weekend, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with health experts, urge Americans to be smart—and safe—if you’re going to be around others.

AIBD is observing the holiday by turning off the phones (that are currently forwarding right to our laptop computers and mobile devices) and ignoring our email, at least for today.

How to safely celebrate Labor Day during a pandemic (by USA Today)…

Congrats! Willie & Mike!
The AIBD Board of Directors unanimously awarded James (Willie) Dalrymple, FAIBD, and Mike Keesee, FAIBD, Lifetime memberships.

Mike is celebrating his 25th year of membership and has served almost every board position except President. He continues to serve the AIBD community with advice, mentoring, and education.

Willie joined AIBD in 1993 (27 years ago) and has spent most of those years providing educational opportunities to the members through conferences, societies, and chapters.

In response, “AIBD has been a great benefit to me and my clients.” Wrote Dalrymple. Keesee added, “I’m honored and have always been proud to be associated with our organization.”

Members may be nominated for a Lifetime membership by current Professional members at AIBD.org/lifetime-membership-nomination.

Coffee With Bernie
Never Forget!
This month’s Coffee Chat is on September 11th. Let’s start off the morning with a commencement of that horrible day, September 11, 2001. What were you doing on that day?

Our coffee chat is always open to any topic but I would like to hear if AIBD designers are suggesting any alternatives to clients in regards to rising construction costs, particularly in lumber prices.

Is the spike in construction costs affecting any of your projects or project start dates?

To help your clients look at alternatives have you considered metal studs?

Or advanced framing?

Let’s discuss and share ideas.

The Out of This World membership drive.
On Tuesday, September 22, there is going to be an Equinox.

This only happens twice a year and in other words, it is the moment at which the center of the visible Sun is directly above the equator.

In even simpler terms, this means that the day is almost literally “divided in half” with the same amount of time of daylight as there is night time.

For that one day, join AIBD And get an “Out of this World!” deal – half-off of your first year of membership.

4 weekly tips to improve your life & business
Would you enjoy getting a short email from me (Steve Mickley) every Friday, that provides a little morsel of fun before the weekend?

4x Friday is a very short email I send out with four of the coolest things I’ve found, learned, or experienced that week.

It could include new products, ideas, tips, articles, hacks, and tricks.
Mostly building design and construction-related things, but maybe some weird stuff I dig up along the way, too.

It’s very short. A tiny bite of goodness before you head off for the weekend.
