Jim Wright Bio

James A. (Jim) Wright, CGP, CPBD, FAIBD is president and principal designer of Residential Designed Solutions, Inc. which has specialized in a full range of design and construction document services for home builders, remodelers and their clients in the central Ohio area since 1988. He also heads The Plan Drawer, Inc. which supplies pre-designed home plans to the local and national markets.

A Certified Professional Building Designer and Certified Green Professional (NAHB), Jim has served on many committees and the boards of several organizations including the House Plan Marketing Alliance. He has been the Secretary/Treasurer of the National Council of Building Designer Certification and earned the title of Examiner Emeritus in 2019.

Jim also served on the national board of directors of the American Institute of Building Design for thirteen years including two terms as National President. He has received many national design awards over the years including winning the on-site 2004 MasterWork of Design competition at the Remodelers Show in Chicago. He was named the National Designer of the Year by the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) in 2004 and was inducted into the College of Fellows in 2014. He is currently serving as the Chancellor of the AIBD College of Fellows.

An associate member in the Central Ohio Building Industry Association (BIA) since 1990, he designed the 1995 BIA Foundation House and co-designed the 1986 Center of Science and Industry (COSI) house. Jim has received many awards for his designs displayed in the BIA Parade of Homes including Peoples’ Choice (2nd) in 1997, 2004 and 2013. In 2005, Jim was honored to receive the BIA Distinguished Service Award in Architecture.

Jim served for five years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Ohio chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) including terms as Treasurer and Vice President. He was awarded the George Frank President’s Service Award in 2009 and the esteemed Orla Coakly Award for Industry Advancement in 2011. He is currently serving as a Vice President of the Central Ohio chapter of NARI.
