We are excited to announce the kick-off of the registration process for the annual Design-Build Day at Weber State University.

 

Their Construction Management, Facilities Management, Architecture, and Interior Design students interact with industry partners to find internships and job opportunities. They also invite 1000+ concurrent enrollment high school and technical college students from Northern Utah. This is the premier career fair event in Northern Utah, as all attendees will be taking courses relating to the construction industry.

Watch this video to catch a glimpse of what the 2019 event looked like (Watch for AIBD president Bernie Kern at 0:2:28). The only difference is that the career fair will be happening in the parking lot in 2022, and there will be 15-minute breakout sessions for industry/education partners to present to students in the ballrooms.
 
The funding collected to participate in this event will be used to fund scholarships and to pay for the food trucks that we will have on-site for everyone to enjoy.

Healthy home construction is one of the hottest topics in homebuilding today, and the Haywards have experienced firsthand why it is critical. A library of training videos provided by the Certified Training Institute (CTI), one of our newest CE Providers, now lives on AIBD.org.   

 

Each of the 25+ hours of training is identified and arranged according to the associated areas of knowledge and skills, according to the AIBD’s Building Designer Job Task Analysis (JTA), which is found on pages 39-43 in the CPBD Candidate Handbook.

 

There are four knowledge areas identified in the JTA – Business Administration, Business Practices, Design Process, and Building Design.

 

The new Certified Training Institute webpage currently includes instruction in only the first domain – Business Admin. But rather than waiting until all 56 CTI classes are uploaded, we’ll announce each of the parts as they go live (about two weeks apart).

 

Thanks to CTI, everyone wishing to become better skilled at their craft will have specialized training access.

AIBD, AIA, and 40+ other organizations serve together on the Resilient Building Coalition (RBC).

 

These ten webinars grew out of a conversation the RBC had two years ago. During that meeting, climate scientists and design professionals presented their efforts to collaborate for more significant climate impact. As a result, the RBC determined a climate risk webinar would be of value to the partnering associations’ collective members.

Many months and one pandemic later, the coalition is thrilled to share the Regional Tour of Climate Risk for Planning and Design. This ten-part series is free to all and will also be recorded for future viewing.
