The College of Fellows Class of 2023

This year’s inductees into the College of Fellows are Felicia Barron Foster (TX) and Thomas M. Schmelter

The AIBD College of Fellows are certified Professional Members who have notably contributed to advancing the building design profession through excellence in design and literature or by design and public service.

Felicia Barron Foster has been an esteemed member of the AIBD since 2014. With her extensive expertise in design, Felicia has consistently showcased excellence earning many prestigious ARDAs, including two this year in Model Homes and Custom Homes.

Beyond her exceptional design skills, Felicia has also made a significant impact through her public service endeavors. She spearheaded a vital initiative in the City of Austin, TX, where she led a dedicated group of stakeholders in streamlining processes and procedures at the Development Services Department. Their collaborative efforts successfully identified win-win solutions that improved the development process and alleviated pressure on a hardworking staff in an ever-growing city.

Thomas M. Schmelter joined AIBD in 1993 and became certified ten months later.
With an unwavering commitment to design excellence, Tom and his firm specialize in crafting exquisite period-style homes in the picturesque region of New England. He has actively contributed to the field through his literacy and public service involvement. Notably, he was one of three contributing authors in creating comprehensive study guides for aspiring candidates preparing for the former NCBDC structural design exam.

We are honored to have Felicia and Tom on board, bringing their wealth of expertise, creativity, and passion to the College of Fellows.
