The GreenHome Institute’s – “Road map to multifamily decarbonization” – Free CE Webinar

September 6, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

About this event

Like many in the affordable housing sector, SAHF and its members see the urgent need to create healthy and resilient homes. Resources from the HUD Green and Resilient Retrofit Program, DOE Home Energy Rebates, the IRS Investment Tax Credit and the EPA Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund present a tremendous opportunity for an equitable transition to a low carbon future, but affordable housing owners will need resources that allow them to weigh decisions and understand decarbonization implications beyond the individual property.

The SAHF Carbon Roadmap (“the Roadmap”) allows multifamily portfolio owners to test scenarios and create plans to understand better the impact of decarbonization strategies on portions of their portfolio. The Roadmap builds off the SAHF Multifamily Portfolio Carbon Emissions Calculator (“the Calculator”) and helps portfolio owners take results from the Calculator and develop actionable decarbonization strategies. Find the Roadmap here: https://sahfnet.org/resources/multifamily-portfolio-carbon-emissions-roadmap-tool

Who is this for?

Those serving the multifamily housing sector such as but not limited to developers, architects, general contractors, raters, mechanical contractors, realtors, consultants, and suppliers.

Continuing Education Units (CEUS) 1 hour in

  • Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI)
  • Building Performance Institute (BPI) NonWholeHouse
  • Submitted for American Institute of Architects – AIA (HSW)
  • Certified Green Professional (NARI & CGP)
  • Certified GreenHome Professional (CGHP)
  • AIBD
  • State Architect / Builder License may be applicable

Lessons Learned:

  1. Understand the importance of portfolio-level planning for multifamily owners, especially in reference to IRA programs and funding as well as state and local jurisdiction clean energy commitments, like building performance standards.
  2. Learn more about carbon accounting practices and the impact on the affordable housing sector.
  3. Learn about how the SAHF Calculator can help you create a multifamily portfolio carbon emissions baseline and track carbon emissions on an annual basis.
  4. Learn about how the SAHF Roadmap can help you take your carbon emissions results and create a roadmap to achieve a time-bound measurable target, like the DOE Better Climate Challenge.

Speakers: Lauren Westmoreland & Ian Poeyamagata

Lauren Westmoreland leads SAHF’s environmental initiatives, including the Bringing Sustainability Home (BSH), a cross-cutting energy and health initiative that aims to ensure that low-income residents and communities have equal access to critical environmental and health benefits. In addition to BSH, Ms. Westmoreland is building upon the success of the Big Reach to support SAHF members in identifying scalable solutions for a low-carbon future that benefits low-income resident and communities and mitigates the impact of climate change.

Prior to joining SAHF, Ms. Westmoreland lead the Enterprise Green Communities state and local policy initiative at Enterprise Community Partners and developed and lead the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance’s Built Environment portfolio. Ms. Westmoreland served as an AmeriCorps where she became a HERS Rater for SystemVision, an energy efficiency program serving the North Carolina single-family affordable housing sector.

Ms. Westmoreland is a Registered Architect in North Carolina and a LEED AP. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Architecture from North Carolina State University.

Ian works toward harmonizing SAHF’s data collection processes, by integrating and aligning SAHF’s data sources for analysis. He supports SAHF’s energy & water work by engaging with SAHF members on the creating of a decarbonization roadmap and driving the implementation of data collection and analysis. Beyond this, he also assists in the design and development of future data collection and analysis efforts, with a focus on improving the quality and developing systems to support longitudinal analysis.

Prior to joining SAHF, Ian worked for Actus Policy Research LLC., a social policy research and evaluation company, focusing on labor and workforce development issues. In this position he supported Actus’s research initiatives, through data collection and analysis on various projects.

Ian holds his B.S. in Economics and B.A. in Japanese Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park.
