…is a monthly “fishbowl” open space discussion hosted by AIBD Internal VP, Bernie Kern, on the second Friday.

This month’s opening topic…

…is to meet your AIBD staff.

Our AIBD staff consists of Executive Director Steven Mickley, Communications Director Garrett Mickley, Certification Director Rusty Hudnet and Administrative Director Amber Thomas.

You may have met them before or even have years of working together with them. But let’s find out up more about who handles our AIBD Institute on a daily basis.

There is a reason why they have been nick-named the A-Team.

Join us for an informal chat. Be prepared to ask questions that may enhance your membership experience.

Find out  something you did not know about your AIBD staff. Bring your favorite coffee cup (or drinking cup) and lets coffee chat with the A-Team!

Bernie will have ten seats open in his “fishbowl” (i.e. Session). There’s only one rule – one seat must always stay open. This is so anyone attending may join the discussion when they feel they have something to contribute or get. Everyone will also be able to network and chat.

A fishbowl conversation is a form of dialog that can be used when discussing topics within large groups.

The advantage of fishbowl is that it allows the entire group to participate in a conversation.

Any member of the audience can, at any time, occupy the empty chair and join the session.

When this happens, an existing member of the fishbowl must voluntarily leave the fishbowl and free a chair.

The discussion continues with participants frequently entering and leaving the fishbowl.

There are also two chatboxes. One for the event, and another one inside the session.

Use the “people” tab to find someone registered, and call them out by name using the “@” symbol before their name in the chatbox.

Not only reached it but smashed it!

Since the last Monday Minute, AIBD has grown by 49 members.

Total, we’ve welcomed 149 new members (some returning) this quarter, with three more days to go. Our goal was 60.

AIBD is on pace to add 600 new members this fiscal year (between July 2020 and June 2021).

November 12 & 13, 2020 – Design & Build Fall Conference, Orlando, FL

AIBD continues to improve its proceedures during these challenging times.

As of today, the D&B Fall Conference is planned to be offered as a “Hybrid Event.” Meaning, you will have the opportunity to attend virtually, or in-person AND virtually.

Among the ongoing planning, according to the Conference Committee:

We are working on confirming a guest from AIBD’s online proctoring service, ProctorU. The interview will discuss how virtual test delivery has evolved during the pandemic, how AIBD’s quest to become ANSI accredited will affect online test delivery, and what are some of the most common issues that delay test takers and proctors from launching and exam, and how we can resolve them in advance.

If you’re offering design services in Florida, you’ll want to know the important changes to the Florida Building Code taking effect on January 1.
