We’re shifting the dates and shuffling the format!
The Design & Build 2021 Winter Conference has new dates – March 17, 18, & 19.

“Show Your Value Through Certifications” is still the theme of our keynote presentations, with other design & construction related topics being added to the schedule.

Educational events are scheduled from 12:30 to 5:30 pm EST, with networking (and party) sessions spilling over into the evening. Including a virtual St. Patrick’s Day happy hour.

The Greer & Lowdermilk Conference Center in Houston, Texas, is still closed due to COVID-19.

Keep an eye on your inbox and visit AIBD.org/winter-conference often to view the new schedule, receive updates, and registration links, as things develop.

ICC to discuss creating an Energy Standard!
The International Code Council (ICC) is considering updating the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and Ch. 11 of the International Residential Code (IRC).

Many stakeholders, including code officials, energy policymakers, home builders, the design community, and industry representatives, have asked for improvements to the IECC development process.

The Appeals Board and the Blue Ribbon Committee recommended this course of action, as well. Download notes from the Blue Ribbon Committee workgroup meeting on November 10, 2020, for more details on the committee discussion.

On January 21, 2021 (12:00 P, the Code Council Board will meet virtually to hear testimony from members and stakeholders. In total, 200 written comments have been received, and 55 individuals have registered to testify.

Although registration to speak is now closed, anyone who wants to listen in may register here.

Sign up for the next Coffee With Bernie
A monthly “fishbowl” open space discussion hosted by AIBD President, Bernie Kern, on the second Friday.
This month’s quest and opening topic
We haven’t received that info from Bernie yet. Visit back or keep an eye on the AIBD MondayMINUTE e-newsletter.

How does it work?
Bernie will have nine seats open in his “fishbowl” (i.e. Session). There’s only one rule – one seat must always stay open. This is so anyone attending may join the discussion when they feel they have something to contribute or get. Everyone will also be able to network and chat.

A fishbowl conversation is a form of dialog that can be used when discussing topics within large groups. The advantage of the fishbowl is that it allows the entire group to participate in a conversation. Any member of the audience can, at any time, occupy the empty chair and join the session. When this happens, an existing member of the fishbowl must voluntarily leave the fishbowl and free a chair. The discussion continues with participants frequently entering and leaving the fishbowl.

Friday, Jan 29, 1:15 PM to Jan 29, 3:00 PM EST

Hang out and network with other high achievers and like-minded professionals specializing in residential design or construction.

Our presenter is Robert Pettett, owner of HomeLink Computer Services.  Since 2001 we have been offering affordable web development for residential builders, designers, and remodelers.  We have served clients in over 20 states in the USA, including AIBD.org, since 2006.

Robert’s presentation will include the basics for someone looking to start a website and then move into some of the particulars of good maintenance practices for those who have websites.  These practices will include Content Updates, ‘Call to Action,’ Search Engine Optimization, and Security.  He will also be touching on Social Media (specifically LinkedIn, Facebook, and Houzz) and how to use these platforms to target specific local peoples in your cities with your marketing message.  Of course, all of these efforts are made to get you more exposure and, ultimately, more business.

“I have appreciated the residential building industry for most of my life.” Robert shares. “My father was a residential builder and developer, and my mother was a top real estate agent for many years. In my younger years, I worked professionally in construction in the areas of framing, trim work, deck building, waterproofing, and landscaping.”  It’s not surprising that Robert started a family-based web development company with a large focus of our work has been among home builders/developers and home designers.

Although AIBD chapters are regional in nature, this online platform makes it easy for anyone to attend from anywhere.

He also spoke about the renaissance of the traditional neighborhood.

This month, he details exterior cladding options and choosing exterior materials for an affordable home design that looks grand.

2021 NC-SC AIBD Design Conference and Trade Show Postponed
The decision has been made to postpone the 2021 NC-SC AIBD Design Conference and Trade Show until March 4th & 5th, 2022.

We hope you will mark your calendars ahead and plan to attend.

Of course, this is contingent on getting the virus under control, or better — eradicating it — so we can get back to normal.

As time passes in 2021 and we see how things are going, we will notify you about plans for the 2022 conference and trade show.
